As a young scientist Lex Luthor was conducting experiments on the secret of life.  He made great breakthroughs before a horrible accident in his lab almost killed him.  Superman came to his rescue, but in his efforts to save Luthor, Superman destroyed all of his experiments Luthor had work so hard and long on.  He also caused Lex to loose all his hair. 

Lex vowed to seek out his revenge on Superman and becomes a very powerful and successful businessman.  He builds himself a Power Suit, powered by Kryptonite and capable of fighting Superman.
